Honors to Host Charity Ball for Other Departments

The Honors department intends to host a charity ball for other less privileged departments next Fall. The idea, suggested at an Honors residence hall meeting was met with great enthusiasm as many in Honors are excited to give back to the community that supports their superior status amongst their peers.

Biology pre-med major, Annabelle Kincaid explains, “I really want to support the anthropology department; they couldn’t afford even one formal self-affirming get together this year. And these are people that will be trapped in a cycle of debt for the rest of their lives.”

“The thing is, even other first world departments like Capstone cannot even come close to the lifestyle that we lead.”

Activities planned for the evening include a cake walk, balloon animals shaped like Gambrell, and a showing of the movie Blood Diamond. Reservations will be required to ensure that there will be no lower than a 1:3 fruit platter to student ratio. Students will be allowed to bring a non-Honors guest provided that they can comply with the dress code, and in the case of a non-Honors male accompanying a female, adult chaperones will be required.

A camping trip is planned for the weekend following the ball during which Honors students will have the chance to camp at Bates for a weekend, experiencing a different lifestyle and doing humanitarian work such as passing out rations and condoms.
